Edamame beans

Steamed edamame beans are a small obsession of mine. Edamame, have been popular in China and Japan for thousands of years and are now available in most supermarkets. They’re low in fat and calories and high in protein, fibre and almost every other essential vitamin and mineral. Soybeans contain active ingredients similar to estrogen, so they can be useful for peri-menopausal women, but you should take care if you have a hormone-sensitive health concern. A good source of calcium, magnesium and tryptophan an amino acid that is converted into the sleep-inducing brain chemical serotonin.

Method:

  1. Simply steam your edamame beans for a few minutes until cooked but still crunchy.
  2. Transfer to a dish and sprinkle with salt and chili flakes (add garlic salt if you wish).
